Who We Are

The Surfhouse Legacy

In 1967, Lloyd and Carol Sandel founded the Surfhouse, inspired by their deep love for Southern California beach culture. What began as a humble shop for surfboard sales and repairs quickly evolved into Houston’s go-to destination for a lifestyle that was sweeping the nation. People of all ages and backgrounds flocked to the small Oak Forest store, eager to find the latest and greatest in surfing and skating gear and apparel. With its welcoming "come as you are" policy and the Sandels' generous contributions to the community, the Surfhouse soon became a beloved institution—one that has endured for over 50 years.

While the Surfhouse has faced challenges in recent years, including the passing of Lloyd in 2022 and shifting consumer habits, its spirit remains unwavering. Though the storefront may be gone, Lloyd and Carol’s legacy lives on. Across the world, countless people share a deep-rooted connection through the Surfhouse and the lifestyle it fostered. This enduring passion is what inspired the creation of the Surfhouse Foundation, which will carry forward the mission of giving back—partnering with local charities and supporting those in need.
